DEPRESSED ACNE SCAR

Dr. Sandeep Bhasin preferred to have 2 or more procedure combined to get best results for acne scar treatment.

a) Acne scar surgery: This is minor surgery perform to treat visible scar so as to create a less noticeable scar. A dermatologist lifts the scar and brings it closer to the skin surface so as to minimize the scar and it can be performed as an OPD procedure.

b) Resurfacing procedure: When there is wide spread scar the resurfacing procedure is applied. It removes the layer of the skin and allows the skin to regenerate and produce new cells. Resurfacing is done by following methods:- a) Laser Skin resurfacing
b) Chemical Peeling
c) Dermabrasion
d) Microdermabrsion
It removes the flat acne scars that are not too deep.

C. Skin fillers: Fillers are used by the dermatologists to plump depressed scars by collagen or pt’s own fat or any other substance. It is not suitable for ice pick scars.

D. Skin tightening: It is new and safe for all the skin colors and a new technique of radiofrequency is used to tighten the skin. But you need more sessions and effectively treat the ice pick and box scars.

E. Collagen Induction Therapy: It is also called needling and encourages our body to produce more collagen. A cosmetologist will move a sterile handheld needle-studded roller across the depressed acne scar and punctures it. As the skin heals it produces collagen.

F. Electrodessication: Here the electric probes heat the tissues and makes the tissue dead and is used to clear boxcar tissues.

Raised Acne Scars

A. Injections: To treat raised scars the medicine is directly injected into the scars this softens and flattened the raised thick scars. But you have to visit 2- 6 weeks depending upon the scar. Corticosteroids and 5-FU are used sometime single sometime jointly. But if the results do not come in 4th injection the acne scar surgery is to be performed.

B. Acne Scar Surgery: Acne scar surgery is followed by another treatment like injections and radiations. This will give best result. Mostly the dermatologist often treat raised scar with injections of corticosteroids or 5-fu and this is most effective treatment for raised scars. Another treatment is surgery followed by radiation but Dr Sandeep Bhasin does not prefer it as it can cause problems.

C. Laser therapy: Laser therapy is done by pulsed dye laser which effectively and safely treat the raised scar. It reduces the Itch and Pain diminish color flattened the raised scar. For light skin people IPL (intense pulse light) may also be the treatment option.

D. Cryosurgery: Here in this treatment the tissue is freezes and makes the tissue to die and later on to fall off. These cryosurgery sessions are followed by corticosteroid injections.

E. Scar Creams and gels: There are various creams and gels which are available in the market as OTC products but they do not give desired results.

F. Silicone Dressings: Silicone dressings and bandages are also used but their efficacy is not proven. One theory is that they hydrate the skin and make skin more flexible. But you should continue use the creams and gels, silicone dressings to get desired result. But they do not reduce the raised scars and are very difficult to continue.
