But none of us knows that Botox is a trade name of a toxin which is produced by bacteria Clostridium Botulinum organism and its spores, and which is highly poisonous and can also produce paralytic effects.

How Does Botox Work?
Botox is injected around the muscle so as to block the nerve signal to this affected muscle. Now after getting injected by Botox the muscle become more relaxed and their activity is reduced and which in turn results in reducing the skin lines. Dr Sandeep Bhasin told us how it works? He said “Whenever our muscle contract our nerves release a chemical messenger, acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter), at the junction where the nerve endings meet muscle cells. The acetylcholine attaches to receptors on the muscle cells and causes the muscle cells to contract or shorten. Injected Botulinum toxin prevents the release of acetylcholine, preventing contraction of the muscle cells. The effect of Botulinum toxin causes a reduction in abnormal muscle contraction allowing the muscles to become less stiff. But the effect remains for 4-6 months and should be repeated few times in a year”. Dr Sandeep Bhasin also told caution the people that it should always be done by a qualified person specially a cosmetic surgeon.
What is Botox Used for?
Botox is used in humans for variety of reasons and is very beneficial for medical treatment of lazy eye, sweating from the hands and under arm, eye squints to migraines, leaky bladders and cervical dystonia. But now days the major use of the Botox is in cosmetic treatment of wrinkles in and around the face. We use facial muscles to create facial expressions and these muscles over a time of period carve out fine lines grooves and wrinkles due to the use and as well as sun damage and human ageing process. These lines and grooves are not visible when our skin is in relaxed position. By getting Botox injected the skin becomes relaxed and appears more youthful and less wrinkled.
